Ico Traders started in Christchurch, but we built our furniture with more than one climate in mind. Auckland's is one of the toughest, so we design for it.
Auckland weather isn't easy on furniture. High humidity most of the year, heavy rainfall, and if you're near the harbour, salt air working into anything that isn't built to handle it. Add UV that stays strong even through a mild winter, and you've got conditions that punish anything cheap or untreated fast.
We finish Ico's steel wire furniture with a PVDF base coat before powder coating, giving genuine protection against rust and fading. If you live in Devonport, Herne Bay, Mission Bay, St Heliers, Takapuna or anywhere else the harbour reaches, we recommend the stainless steel range specifically. It's the strongest defence we make against salt spray and humidity, and it earns its keep on furniture that lives outside year round.
We design ours to move from the deck to the dining room and back. It works whether you're chasing the last of the evening light on a Waiheke deck or bringing everything in ahead of a downpour.
I design pieces to last well past the first owner. You can repair welds and repowdercoat steel wires. If a colour's had its decade, or the elements have taken their toll, it doesn't need replacing. Repair, repaint, reuse.
Ico Traders has always been upfront about how we make our furniture. I design all the wire furniture in Christchurch. The same supplier I've worked with for over a decade in China carries out production. Christchurch people make our soft furnishings and timber tops locally.

We design our stainless steel range with coastal conditions in mind, it offers the strongest protection we make against salt air and humidity. This is relevant for most of Auckland given how close the coast always is. However, it does not mean you can leave it outside without any care. Salt air is like melting sugar, it will stick & eat away at the surface. Regular wash downs prolong the life of any furniture, whether or not it's Ico Traders.
Yes. We can strip steel right back and recolour it to look brand new. You can repowdercoat it in a new colour. We design furniture to last well beyond trends. It can be repaired, repainted & reused.
Yes. We ship across Auckland and nationwide from our Christchurch base.
Miranda designs the furniture in Christchurch. We make our accessories locally in New Zealand; a single long-term supplier in China manufactures the wire furniture.
