Ico Traders

Ico Traders is a small New Zealand furniture company, founded in Christchurch in 2012 by Miranda Osborne.
We design steel wire furniture, created to move around your life and made to last.
Every piece is named after somewhere in New Zealand. Each colour is hand mixed by Miranda, drawing inspiration from the land she lives in.
Ico Traders’ furniture is made from solid steel, not tubular.
It is protected with a PDVF basecoat & powder coated in exclusive colours.
Steel is a sustainable material. It can be repaired, re coloured & recycled.
Every design is simple on purpose.
Working with the same manufacturer since the inception of the business, means that the need for quality is understood.
Ico Traders holds Zero Emissions Certification and offsets 120% of its carbon footprint, with proceeds supporting native regeneration on Banks Peninsula. Sustainability is a measured, documented, ongoing commitment.
The business is small, transparent and we are proud of what we make.

Miranda Osborne

A little bit about me:

I have always had an affiliation with design, firstly with a career designing and buying soft furnishing fabrics, then clothing.

When the Christchurch earthquakes turned our lives upside down, it forced me to rethink many aspects of my life. I decided to leave my job which required frequent overseas trips & look for a more sustainable career that allowed me to stay closer to my husband & 2 young daughters.

In 2012 I founded Ico Traders. I was working from home so it was a natural progression for me to start designing for in & around my environment. Wire furniture became my obsession & continues to this day. Designing is an ever-changing process & introducing furniture accessories to our range means that we can make more products here in New Zealand.

In 2026 Ico Traders is still a small kiwi company consisting of me, my part-time sidekick Bridgett & my constant furry companions.

With over 9 years of working at Ico Traders under her belt, Bridgett has a wealth of knowledge & is Miranda's highly valued 2IC!

As with all small businesses, her capabilities are vast & she is involved in many aspects of day to day running of Ico Traders:

Logistics - If you receive an order from Ico Traders, there is a 98% chance that Bridgett has packed it with care & sent it to you.
Custom colouring of wire furniture: That's Bridgett
Head of the cushion & chairpad department: Bridgett
Locations Manager for photo shoots: That's Bridgett too, she also helps on the day, setting up & taking down

Making Lunch on a Tuesday: Yep Bridgett!!

Being mum to 4 children & to Ted (one of our office dogs), has been good training & she can pretty much do anything!

Who will fill Georgia Smith's shoes?

Bridgett & Georgia have been friends since teenage years, so when we needed help, it was an easy decision to coerce her into joining the team. Her attention to detail and calm, no drama nature was a winning combo but now we are looking for a newbie:

Customer service
Admin/Xero/Data entry

Anything that needs patience and detailed attention

Georgia was also an environmental advocate and kept us on track, to keep doing better on our sustainability journey.

Sarah Rowlands

A friendship with benefits! Sarah has worked with Ico Traders for over 6 years helping to elevate the brand with her incredible talent as photographer. When not mucking in with the Ico team, travelling to out of the way places to spend winter solstices in small spaces, she photographs projects of the built environment and people. That is her real job & has been since 2005.
