Ico Traders started in Christchurch, but the Queenstown Lakes district asks something different of furniture than most of the country. Big temperature swings, real winters, and sun that's stronger at altitude than people expect. We've designed with that in mind.
This region doesn't sit still through the year. Sharp frosts and snow in winter, dry heat and intense UV in summer. Temperature swings that can hit twenty degrees in a single day. Furniture here needs to handle cold without cracking and sun without fading, often within the same week.
We finish Ico's steel wire furniture with a PVDF base coat before powder coating, creating a heat resistant surface and rust resistance too. Our range is built for these conditions and holds up well across Queenstown, Arrowtown, Frankton, Wanaka and Cromwell with a little seasonal care.
We design our furniture to move from the deck to the dining room and back, which suits a region where furniture often needs bringing in before the first real cold snap rather than staying out year round.
I design pieces to last well past the first owner. You can repair welds and repowdercoat steel wires. If a colour's had its decade, or the elements have taken their toll, it doesn't need replacing. Repair, repaint, reuse.
Ico Traders has always been upfront about how we make our furniture. I design all the wire furniture in Christchurch. The supplier I've worked with for over a decade in China carries out production. Christchurch people make our soft furnishings and timber tops locally.

Properly sealed and powder coated steel handles frost and snow well. The main risk is furniture left out through repeated freeze and thaw without any care, so bringing pieces under cover over the coldest months helps them last even longer.
Yes. We can strip steel right back and recolour it to look brand new. You can repowdercoat it in a new colour, which is part of why we design furniture to last well beyond trends, rather than needing replacement.

Miranda designs the furniture in Christchurch. We make our accessories locally in New Zealand; the supplier I've worked with for over a decade in China manufactures the wire furniture.
