At Ico Traders, we design furniture that lasts. To help protect your investment and keep your furniture looking its best, it’s important to follow some simple care and maintenance steps.
Unpacking Tips
When unwrapping your furniture:
-
Use care with knives or scissors to avoid scratching the surface
-
Avoid placing table tops or wire surfaces directly on the ground, we recommend a soft blanket or carpet, to avoid scratches.
Cleaning Guidelines
To keep your furniture clean:
-
Use a soft cloth, mild non-detergent soap, and water
-
Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh cleaners, which can scratch the surface
-
For stubborn grime, use a non-abrasive multi-purpose or window cleaner
Always inspect your furniture while cleaning. If you notice scratches, apply touch-up paint.
Also, clean off bird droppings and sunscreen as soon as possible. These substances can break down the protective finish and lead to staining.
Caring for Furniture in Harsh Conditions
- Wash down regularly to remove sticky salt residue. This is what causes harm to paintwork and steel.
-
Cover your furniture when it’s not in use, especially during winter. Use a breathable cover to avoid mould build-up and moisture retention.
-
For maximum protection, store furniture in a dry, sheltered, and well-ventilated area during the off season. Doing so will also reduce the chance of knocks and scrapes & keep your furniture looking good.
Sustainable Disposal and Recycling
When you’re ready to dispose of packaging or old furniture:
-
Take all recyclable materials to your local refuse centre
-
Where possible, choose to reuse, re home, refurbish, or recycle instead of sending items to landfill
At Ico Traders, we believe in long lasting design and circular living. With the right care, your wire furniture will remain a beautiful and functional part of your space for many years to come.
FABRIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR OUTDOOR FURNITURE
Washing and Cleaning
• Water temperature: Wash in cold or lukewarm water below 30°C using a gentle cycle. Do not soak in hot water.
• Detergent: Use a mild, neutral detergent only. Do not use bleach, strong alkaline washing powder, disinfectant, alcohol or solvents.
• Washing method: Hand wash or use a gentle machine-wash cycle. Avoid hard rubbing, vigorous brushing or scrubbing.
• Dry cleaning: Do not dry clean unless the care label specifically permits it.
Drying and Ironing
• Air dry in a cool, shaded and well-ventilated place.
• Do not tumble dry, steam dry or use high heat.
• Do not expose the fabric to strong, direct sunlight for long periods, as this may cause fading, discoloration and fabric aging.
• Do not wring or twist the fabric, as this may cause deformation. Gently squeeze out excess water or lay the item flat to dry.
• Do not iron unless necessary. If ironing is required, use the lowest temperature setting and place a clean cloth between the iron and the fabric.
Daily Care and Spot Cleaning
• Remove ordinary dust with a soft brush or dry cloth.
• For local stains, wipe gently with a damp cloth and a small amount of neutral cleaner. Afterwards, wipe with clean water and air dry completely.
• Clean spilled beverages, oil and other stains as soon as possible to prevent them from penetrating the fabric and leaving permanent marks.
• Always test any cleaning solution on a small, hidden area first.
Do Not
• Do not use hot water, high-temperature drying or steam drying.
• Do not use bleach, strong alkaline cleaners, disinfectants, alcohol, perfume or other chemical solvents.
• Do not use sharp objects on the fabric, as they may cause cuts, snags or pulled threads.
• Do not place heavy objects on the fabric for extended periods, as this may cause deformation.
• Do not leave the fabric continuously exposed to rain or standing water. Allow it to dry thoroughly after exposure to moisture.
Storage and Long Term Care
• Before longterm storage, make sure the fabric is completely clean and dry.
• Store it in a dry, cool and well ventilated place to prevent mildew and odor.
• Avoid folding or compressing cushions and pillows under heavy objects for long periods.
• We recommend using a protective cover when the furniture is not in use for an extended period.
Outdoor Fabric Maintenance
• In rainy or humid conditions, wipe away moisture regularly and keep the fabric dry to help prevent mildew and water marks.
• Remove leaves, dirt and standing water promptly. Do not allow water to remain on the fabric for extended periods.
• Regular cleaning and the use of a suitable outdoor furniture cover can help extend the service life of the fabric.
