Ico Traders started here. Miranda designs every piece from Halkett St, in the city that gave her the reason to start in the first place.
So when we say our furniture is made for Canterbury conditions, we mean the conditions outside our own door. The nor’wester that strips the leaves off in an afternoon. The salt air rolling in off Sumner and New Brighton. The frost that catches you out in July. We’ve watched what this land does to furniture for over a decade, and we design around it.

Furniture built for what Canterbury 

Christchurch weather doesn’t do gentle. High UV in summer, sharp frosts in winter, and if you’re anywhere near the coast, salt air working away at anything that isn’t built for it.
Our steel wire furniture is finished with a PVDF base coat before powder coating, giving genuine protection against rust and fading. If you’re in Sumner, Redcliffs, New Brighton or anywhere else the sea reaches, we’d point you toward our stainless steel range specifically. It’s the strongest defence we make against salt spray and coastal humidity, and it’s worth the investment if your furniture lives outside year round.
For those further inland, in Merivale, Fendalton, Cashmere or out toward Rolleston, our standard mild steel range holds up well, particularly with a little seasonal care.

Light enough to move, strong enough to stay in place

Canterbury living means furniture that earns its place. Ours is designed to move from the deck to the dining room and back, so it works whether you’re chasing the last of the evening sun or bringing everything in ahead of a nor’wester.
It’s also designed to last well past the first owner. Steel can be repowdercoated, so if a colour’s had its decade, or the elements have taken their toll, it doesn’t need replacing. Buy less, use it more.

Designed here, not disposable

We’re upfront about how our furniture is made. Ico Traders wire furniture is designed by Miranda in Christchurch, with production carried out by the same supplier we’ve worked with for over a decade. Our soft furnishings and oak accessories are the exception, made locally by Christchurch people.
What we control from here is the design, the colour, and how long the piece is built to last in a climate that doesn’t make it easy.

  Look for furniture finished to handle UV, wind and temperature swings. Our steel wire furniture is coated for rust and fade resistance, and we recommend stainless steel specifically for coastal Christchurch suburbs like Sumner and New Brighton.

  Quick answer: No but the furniture is designed in Christchurch by Miranda.  The wire furniture is manufactured by the same long-term supplier we have always used.  Our wood accessories are made locally in New Zealand . All our cushions and chairpads are made to order, just round the corner from our Christchurch warehouse.
