The Waipuna Outdoor Side Table is the simplest of all our outdoor side tables. In Corten steel, it takes on a rich, rusted patina over time, giving each table its own character.

Built for the outdoors

A shelf inside keeps your phone and valuables out of the sun. The Waipuna is made from 3mm solid Corten steel, robust enough to stand up to the wind.

Pair it with

Team your Waipuna Side Table with your favourite outdoor furniture: the Piha Lounger, Coromandel Chair, or Orere Sofa. For small spaces like balconies and foyers, it works well matched with the Portobello Chair.

Why Corten steel

Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, forms a stable, rust like finish outdoors, so it never needs painting. A mix of copper, chromium and nickel builds a protective layer on the surface as it weathers. These tables have only been weathering for 6 weeks.  As with all weathering steel, expect some rust bleed in the first 6 to 12 months. Caring for your Corten Steel Waipuna Table

Corten steel weathers on purpose. Over its first 6 to 12 months it will develop a rich, rusted patina, and during that time it needs a little extra care.

Rust bleed

While it weathers, Corten sheds orange rust when wet. Left directly on concrete or light coloured pavers, this can leave a permanent stain.

• Place your table on grass, gravel, or dark decking while it weathers

• Use rubber feet to lift the base off the surface

• Once the patina reaches the look you want, seal it to stop further bleed

Heat

Solid metal tabletops can get hot under direct New Zealand sun, sometimes too hot to touch or to rest a drink on.

• Use a coaster or placemat in full sun

• Where you can, position the table under shade, a sail, or a pergola in peak summer

Handling and placement

Corten steel is strong, but like any solid metal furniture, it should sit on a level surface and be moved rather than dragged. If you notice any flex, unevenness, or a sharp edge, get in touch with us directly so we can take a look.
