Coromandel Chair – Stainless Steel

$660.00

The Coromandel Stainless Steel Chair is your go to for long conversations in the sun, quiet moments with a view, or slow afternoons with a good book.

The same design, a premium upgrade

The same original Coromandel design, in a more robust quality. Made using 201 grade stainless steel for extra strength and corrosion resistance. The frame of the Coromandel Chair in stainless steel  looks identical to the original, but the added protection makes it suited to harsher outdoor environments. If you live near the ocean, or somewhere with high humidity or rainfall, stainless steel is always the safer investment.

Comfort, built in

This stainless steel chair does not need cushioning to be comfortable. For a bit more softness, we have created a custom outdoor chair pad, made in New Zealand and sold separately.

Complete the setting

Pair your stainless steel Coromandel chairs with an Orere Sofa, a Rotoiti Coffee Table, and a Waipuna Side Table  All items are available in stainless steel and sold separately.

Good to know

This item is available for local pickup at 12 Halkett St, Christchurch, to save on freight. We will be in touch when your order is ready for collection.

Like a white T shirt, every mark shows. Some staining may still occur on lighter colourways

How to Care for Your Ico Traders Wire Furniture.

At Ico Traders, we design wire furniture that lasts. Made from steel - a strong, durable, and recyclable material. Our pieces are built to stand the test of time. To help protect your investment and keep your furniture looking its best, it’s important to follow some simple care and maintenance steps.

Why Maintenance Matters.

Each Ico Traders piece is finished with a PVDF base coat and coloured powder coat, which offers protection against the elements. However, steel can still rust if it’s scratched, damaged, or left in harsh environments for long periods.

If you live near the ocean or in areas with high humidity and rainfall, we recommend choosing from our stainless steel range for extra resistance.

Furniture Care: Getting Started.

Unpacking Tips.

When unwrapping your furniture:

  • Use care with knives or scissors to avoid scratching the surface

  • Avoid placing table tops or wire surfaces directly on the ground, we recommend a soft blanket or carpet, to avoid scratches.

Cleaning Guidelines

To keep your wire furniture clean:

  • Use a soft cloth, mild non-detergent soap, and water

  • Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh cleaners, which can scratch the surface

  • For stubborn grime, use a non-abrasive multi-purpose or window cleaner

Always inspect your furniture while cleaning. If you notice scratches or early signs of rust, apply touch-up paint immediately to prevent further damage.

Also, clean off bird droppings and sunscreen as soon as possible. These substances can break down the protective finish and lead to staining or corrosion.

Regular Maintenance Tips.

Taking a few regular steps will extend the life of your furniture and keep it looking great:

  • Check that plastic sliders on the feet are still in place. Replace any that go missing to avoid metal-to-ground contact.

  • If you see rust forming from a bump or scratch, touch it up quickly using enamel paint. You can also spray affected areas with WD-40 or CRC to drive out moisture and prevent corrosion.

  • To treat T-staining, apply a liquid or paste polish or even car wax. The earlier you act, the better the results. *Note: Like a white T-shirt where every mark shows, a small amount of staining may still occur on lighter colourways.

Caring for Furniture in Harsh Conditions.

New Zealand’s coastal and wet-weather environments can be tough on iron and steel.

  • If you live near the sea, we strongly recommend our premium stainless steel range.  While it looks exactly the same, it will resist salt air and moisture more effectively.

  • Wash down regularly to remove sticky salt residue.  This is what causes harm to paintwork and steel.
  • Cover your furniture when it’s not in use, especially during winter. Use a breathable cover to avoid mould build-up and moisture retention.

  • For maximum protection, store furniture in a dry, sheltered, and well-ventilated area during the off season. Doing so will also reduce the chance of knocks and scrapes & keep your furniture looking good.

Sustainable Disposal and Recycling.

When you’re ready to dispose of packaging or old furniture:

  • Take all recyclable materials to your local refuse centre

  • Where possible, choose to reuse, re home, refurbish, or recycle instead of sending items to landfill

At Ico Traders, we believe in long lasting design and circular living. With the right care, your wire furniture will remain a beautiful and functional part of your space for many years to come.

  • HOW COMFORTABLE ARE THE COROMANDELS REALLY?  We have spent hours spacing the wires of our outdoor furniture so that every chair is super comfy to sit in without extra padding. You can sit in a Coromandel Chair for a couple of hours no problem, you may get some wire markings if legs are bare though.  Throwing in a sheepskin, or a chair pad allows you to sit in them for days if you want.
  • ARE THE CHAIRS HARD TO PUT TOGETHER?  No - they are very easy, Place the chair upside down on a carpet or soft blanket so you don't scratch the top of the chair. Make sure the legs face the correct way, (the bigger angled side of the leg goes to the back). Insert the legs into the tunnels that are on the underside of the chair. If necessary, use a soft rubber mallet to help push the legs into the tunnels. There are 4 x screws and nuts, tighten with the Allen key to assemble them.  We can assemble them for you: $35.00 per chair. If you are based in Christchurch, you can pick them up and save freight costs. For the rest of New Zealand, if the chairs are assembled, freight costs may increase.
  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MILD STEEL AND STAINLESS STEEL QUALITIES? Mild steel furniture is best suited for indoor areas or sheltered outdoor spaces in dry climate conditions. It’s ideal for use inside, covered patios, or sunny decks protected from rain. Stainless steel furniture is the right choice for coastal regions, high humidity, or areas exposed to salt winds. For homes near the sea or in damp environments, stainless steel ensures long-lasting durability and resistance to corrosion
  • HOW ARE YOU A SUSTAINABLE COMPANY? Ico Traders is a proudly carbon positive company, audited annually by Opportune New Zealand. We reduce waste, reuse materials and recycle wherever possible. Our carbon footprint is offset through contributions to Waipuna Bush, helping to regenerate native forest near Christchurch, New Zealand. When you choose the Piha Lounger, you’re supporting sustainable, timeless design, made to last.
  • WHAT SORT OF WARRANTY DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUR FURNITURE?  Ensuring the quality of of furniture has always been of utmost importance to the Ico Traders production team & we are proud to say there are very rarely faults.  Little wiggles in wires are part of the handcrafted nature of the product. There is a 2 year warranty on any broken welds or wirer.  Contact us & they will be fixed immediately, or your item replaced .
